Will the new health care system punish people with a healthy lifestyle?

Sara asked:

The recent system does not cover anything that I really need, it punishes people with a healthy lifestyle. Someone like me (no drugs, no smoking, little alcohol) get nothing out of the health insurance.

People using alternative medicine, as chiropractors, acupuncture, mineral and herbal supplements, basically anything but big pharmacy traditional medications and surgery, have to pay full price. This is very unfair.

Basic needs like eyeglasses, contact lenses, hearing aids and dental should also be included.

Why don’t we just give all of our money to the government so they can pay it back to us in services?

I DO NOT trust our government!

Saying that you don’t need health insurance because you’re healthy is like saying you don’t need homeowner’s insurance because your house is intact.

Health coverage is more than just routine visits to a doctor, but also entails emergency and catastrophic illness.

As to whether or not the new system punishes people… eh I don’t really know. It’s just that the premise of your statement is flawed.

Alternative medicines and chiropractic services not being covered is GOOD. Insurance doesn’t want to pay for pseudo-science and unproven methods… nor should they have to (although some do cover chiropractic work). Acupuncture and herbal supplements as a way to treat disease have never been scientifically proven and are likely useless.

Whether it works for you or not is another matter, I’m referring to empirical, scientific evidence that says that these alternative methods work. There isn’t any. That’s why insurance doesn’t pay.

im more worried about the lower middle class person who has a bad accident with no health coverage. im willing to pay a little more on my end to help out a fellow human being on their end, its human.

you probably won’t get anything more out of it…

but the hope is that it will be cheaper at the end of the day… so you won’t be paying as much… overall…

other nations with socialized care pay about half as much as the U.S. does per person on average…

No body is perfectly healthy so you will be effected no matter what.

Any communist give-me program punishes the working class up through the affluent. It only helps the worthless, unneeded, useless, POOR!

  8. BigDog Says:

Yes, healthy people will be chained to walls and beaten mercilously.

  9. The Patriot Says:

    No.

First of all, Obama is not going to bring in universal healthcare, a fact that many people (including those who voted for him) seem not to realise. He wants to make insurance more available to all.

Second, of course universal health-cover sucks. That is why we in Western Europe have it. We think, hmm, our healthcare system sucks. I know, lets keep it. I guess that is the same with Japan and Canada as well.

FACT - the USA spends more on healthcare PER PERSON than any other nation on the planet.

FACT - the US has higher death rates for kids aged under five than western European countries with universal health coverage.

That means that a dead American four year old would have had a better chance of life if they were born in Canada, France, Cuba, Germany, Japan etc, all of which have universal health coverage.

People with a healthy lifestyle can still get really ill. Some of the healthiest people I know have developed rheumatoid arthritis and multiple sclerosis.

  11. Josh Says:

No more I think than the current system does. I mean, when you get private insurance, you’re paying for people who smoke, are overweight, don’t exercise, etc. Also, as my doctor, a died-in-the-wool conservative, put it, the current system allows people who don’t pay for health insurance to freeload off of the people who do, because when they get a serious illness they can’t pay their bills and the rest of us end up absorbing the costs of their bankruptcies and paying higher rates to the doctors and hospitals that get shafted.

  12. Daisy Says:

WAKE UP AMERICA IF YOU HAVE HEALTH INSURANCE OR NOT, AND/OR GO TO THE DOCTOR OR HOSPITAL YOU ARE ALREADY PAYING FOR THOSE WHO DO NOT PAY BECAUSE OF NO INSURANCE AND NO MONEY!!!
When a person shoplifts the loss has to be paid by someone, usually the consumer. When a person receives medical care it has to be paid for also therefore those that do pay pay for all.

WE NEED TO FIX HEALTH CARE IN THIS COUNTRY

  13. Sonia Says:

I think you do have a point. However health care still means traditional medication system.
