Which type of protein supplement should I take?

I’m a vegetarian and I’m concerned about my protein intake. I do weight train from time to time but I’m not trying to be a body builder or anything like that. I want to take protein to make up for the absence of meat in my diet and so that I don’t end up looking scrawny. I’ve read about all different kinds of protein but I’m still not sure which would be best for me. What kind of protein supplement should I take, how much should I consume, and what time of the day (if it matters) should I take it?
