1. Protect your eyes from UV light by wearing sunglasses and caps.

2. Don't smoke.

3. Eat a diet high in fruits and vegetables. Spinach contains lutein which has been shown to prevent macular degeneration. Tomatoes contain Zeaxanthin which helps avoid the same disease.

4. If you are not sure you are eating well enough, take a multivitamin. If you are at risk for macular degeneration, take a supplement like Ocuvite.

5. Eat fish or if you don't like fish take a fish oil or flax seed supplement. These help prevent dry eye.

6. Don't drink alcohol in excess.
