No that’s not true - what makes people gain weight actually is unhealthy carbs (like cookies etc.) AND unhealthy fat! (like butter, margarine, etc.).
If you eat mostly lean protein like chicken and fish and eggs, and fruit and veggies, and oatmeal, you WILL lose fat and feel great and have energy! you can do it, good luck!
