one might say that MgCO3 is not soluble in water, &#038; so it can not be absorbed....
but when it hits the stomach acid it is  converted to MaCl2 &#038; can be absorbed
its difference is that it neutralizes stomach acid &#038; produces CO2 gas...
imagine swallowing alka-seltzer tablets without allowing them to giv off the gas first
