Herbs: Gingko Biloba or Vervain
(things like fish oil are no better than peanut butter because of fat in them too much fat can slow down your thinking process! Too much meat oils such as fish can clog your arteries!) Avoid meat oils! ShortcutHerbal Goody

It is important to remember that the right balance of omega-3 (like in fish oils) and omega-6 is important. For a comprehensive fact sheet about Omega-3, 6, and 9's read this:

If interested in the product mentioned look under the Physicians Formula Tab at

Hope this helps explain how these supplements are important for brain health, heart health, joint function, and normal growth of blood vessels and nerves.

If you would like me to send you a copy of the fact sheet in pdf form please email me at healthconsciousinCA

There are several supplements, from fish oils like Omega 3, which in most cases needs to be taken in a fairly high amount over a over time has shown to help improve memory and overall brain function. As well as some Chinese herbs like Ginkgo Biloba, you can check out the Wikipedia link below for more info.

But overall, no pill or supplement is going to "make you smarter", with the math issue, take a step or two back and go back over the concepts, math tends to build on itself, so if you don't know step 1, you will never be able to figure out step 2.

And to retain information better, what I do is write it out three times and then repeat it to myself three more times, this usually gets it sunk into my brain, if that doesn't work for you try six times, but if you keep going over the material you will retain it, just might take more effort.

Think about it this way, the first few times you heard that cool song you didn't know the lyrics, but after hearing it 10 or 20 times you finally got it and can sing it without even hearing the song at some point.

Hope that helps! Adam-O

That's kind of a yes/no answer. There are supplements that help with brain health and memory, which can also help with focus and recall. However, if (for example) you aren't very good at math, nothing but studying will help you improve in math... although these supplements could help you study and focus.

That being said, the most popular natural products for brain health are Ginkgo Biloba, Acetyl L-Carnitine, Fish Oil (Omega 3), Phosphatidylserine (abbreviated PS), DMAE, Huperzine A, Bacopa Monnieri (or Monniera), and Vinpocetine.
There are a LOT of people that get a lot of benefit from any combination of those. I would suggest adding one at a time to your daily regiment as too much too fast can be tough.

With all that being said, most of those haven't been researched for safety in people under 18 years old. I'm not sure if you are asking for someone under 18 (I assume because of the math question that it's school related), but if they are under 18, Fish Oil is definitely safe and Acetyl-L-Carnitine should be perfectly safe. Good luck! oldtimekid2
