How do I supplement my diet, without meat?

Hello!

I am considering giving up meat for Lent, but I’mnot sure what else I could eat, to supplement my diet.

My family eats meat at almost every single meal, and I don’t know what all I could eat, that isn’t just side items.

Thanks,! :D I don’t want fake meat, I want things that will still give me good nutrients and stuff, w/o meat.

    Oh, there are tons of fake meat products. I get mine at Giant Eagle. Morning Star and Boca are really good.

    Beans, nuts, seeds and some grains (like whole quinoa) are an excellent protein source.

    Personally I like beans as most also contain calcium and iron. smedrik

    Tofu, tempeh, eggs, beans, yogurt, milk, smoothies made with protein powder: all of these are great sources of protein. Maggie M

    Morning Star has a LOT of great fake meat.
    But, if you can’t afford it beans and nuts are a great alternative. Like, whip yourself up a PB&J when your family is eating their burgers, because the peanut butter has protein.
    Milk/Soy Milk has calcium, which can help too. Simi

    Great question!

    I suggest going to a few websites to gather food ideas. It’s not as tricky as you may think. Beans, lentils, nuts, seeds, fruits, veggies, and fortified cereals with fortified soymilk can give you all that you need!

    Boca, Morningstar Farms, Lightlife, Amy’s Kitchen, and Quorn are brands of vegetarian foods that can be found at Stop & Shop, Pathmark, and supermarkets that sell organic foods.
    They have a lot of meat alternatives that taste similar to meat but are made with soy, wheat gluten, vegetable protein, and other ingredients.
    They sell veggie burgers, veggie chicken sandwiches, veggie chicken strips, veggie ground crumbles, veggie ham slices, veggie turkey slices, veggie bacon, veggie sausage, vegan ribs, and much more.

    Chinese Restaurants sell sesame bean curd with rice and general tso’s bean curd with rice.
    Burgerking has a veggie burger value meal.
    Asian markets sell seitan(wheat gluten)

    In addition to meat alternatives, you can also eat cereal, pasta, fruits, vegetables, nuts, and snacks(read label before eating them and watch out for gelatin).

    One vegetarian dish that I enjoy making is Lightlife’s vegan chicken strips with rice and beans, plantains, and avacados. If you don’t have lightlife products near where you live, you could substitute it with a vegan chicken sandwich from Boca and cut it into strips.

    For Holidays, I like making Morningstar Farm’s vegan riblets with sweet potatoes, corn, macaroni and cheese, and blueberry pie.
    Or tofu turkey(sold at health food stores) with potatoes, plantains, rice & beans, and apple pie dentakleen
