You can buy 5-HTP at any health food store. Tryptophan is no longer available in the U.S. (the govt. outlawed it after a bad batch - due to a manufacturing problem - killed several people; Tryptophan is not dangerous, the contaminated batch was the problem, but politicians always do the wrong thing).
In the body, Tryptophan is converted into 5-HTP which is then converted into Serotonin (which is also the precursor for Melatonin).
