synchronised asked: I am a non-US citizen and need this information to do a case.
Specifically:
1) Is health insurance compulsory for everyone?
2) What happens if someone cannot afford it?
3) In the event that a medical procedure needs to be done, does health insurance cover all the bills? Does the patient need to pay anything extra?
4) Does the patient have any say over what kind of procedure he can take? Say if 2 treatments are available for his condition, can the patient choose the more expensive treatment? And if so, is it covered by the insurance?
Thanks for reading this. Your help in answering any part of the questions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks to those who have responded so far.
I would like to further ask:
Does a health insurance contract state that it will only cover the “normal” rates for a procedure? For eg. if there are 2 possible treatments for a disease, 1 of which is more expensive but more effective than the other, will the patient only be covered by the LESS expensive one?
Or is it a case in which the patient can opt for the more expensive one and “top-up” the difference?
This is a crucial question to my understanding the case. Thanks!

Misty L asked: I lost my job in December and lost health insurance. In August I will be able to get health insurance through a program at a state college I wil be attending. Is this too long of a lapse to cover pre-existing conditions? PA BTW.

Emily K asked: Let’s say there’s a family, and there’s three different prescriptions for different medications within the family. Let’s say the Dad is paying for health insurance. Do you just pay for health insurance once, when you register for it? Do you pay $20 monthly? Does the price you pay go up when you add more medications? I’m confused.

bdunc295 asked: Few would be willing to dish out for private coverage while they are receiving health care from government taxation. Would the private health industry perhaps dwindle down to a few big players and be forced to take a hit by improving coverage and care?
I’m well aware health care won’t be nationalized. I meant to indicate this is a hypothetical question.

LOVER asked: My mom doesn’t have health insurance and my job doesn’t give insurance to family members.
I would like to pay monthly to a health insurance company so my mom could get health check up when she needs it.
Do you know any health insurance companies that can accept low monthly payments since I don’t get paid that much?
We live in northern california.

Katetrinity asked: I currently am paying for COBRA. I am 61 years old, female. I am on long term disability & disability social security. I am able to get medicare when I am 62. I have a pre existing condition, COPD. Looks like no one will accept me, except Blue Cross.
I need a medical supplement PLUS an exceptional prescription plan. I am on many meds, including oxygen 24/7.
I make too much money to qualify for medicaid or any other help.
ANY of you insurance agents have any ideas? I will be 62 on April 5th.
Any help is much appreciated. I have searched & looked on the internet & most of them I do not trust. I have heard too many bad stories about them. I am paying $490.00 a month plus co pays now & it is killing me.

Kinloch K asked: Is Medicare A, B, and D enough health insurance? Do you need a $200+/month supplement to cover a possible triple bypass at age 71? How much will a triple bypass cost? What much will come out of my savings?
