MK asked: He is mixed breed and medium coat sheds year-round. He is in really excellent health so there is no underlying health problem. Eats Nature’s Variety kibble (sometimes raw) to which I add Solid Gold Seameal. I’m thinking about trying to add something else to his food-maybe salmon oil or something like that. Have you had any success with particular diet supplement? Please be specific.

Tim asked: I have a Pomeranian who is a fussy eater, and she won’t touch her food in the dish if I add the recommended Omega for her diet. She has dry itchy skin and she needs this supplement. My other dog also had dry skin and is getting better/healthier thanks to Omega, he has a nice shiny coat. What other ways are there to administer her Omega supplement?
I do have Omega 3 1000 mg. softgels I purchased for myself. Are these too strong for Pomeranians if administered into the back of her mouth?

Memphis Belle asked: Any good websites or books for feeding dogs a raw diet?
Do you add rice for dogs prone to weight gain?
Should fruit and vegtables that canines can safely eat be added?
Is it necessary to supplement raw feeding with vitamins?
How close if Orijen to a raw diet, could you combine raw and kibble?

Hi, I have a pet lab who had severe jaundice when he was a puppy. Now he is fine. However, his liver has been damaged and since than even after 3 years he constantly has stomach upsets. We keep him on a strict vegetarian diet, as he is unable to digest nonvegetarian food. I would like to know if there is any natural health suppliment, tonic to strengthen his liver? Also since his jaundice was cured, he has a weak immune system and constantly gets mange (demodec), ear infection. We keep treating him and have tried almost everything our vet had told us to do. If there is any good remeady for mange other than the amitraz dips, and any way of boosting his immunity, please let me know. Thanks.

James asked: Our dog had Parvo in April, at around 5 months. He’s now 8, has great energy but seems to have stopped growing. He was a rescue so we’re not 100% on the breed but pretty certain he’s a Husky-Shepard mix (with a lot of Shepard). Anyway, some vets say that Parvo will not effect the future health of the dog, while other experienced dog owners have told us the reverse.
This Question applies to any dog, but I’d like to know the best food, or supplements, to give our dog that will allow him grow strong and hopefully regain some size. I’ve just started adding an egg at breakfast and a little meat with his food at night. Any advise would be great.
Thanks,
James
I mean that he’s 8 months old now.

Our 11 year old Lab/Retriever is deathly afraid of fireworks. The last 2 evenings, he shook so bad it was almost like he was having a seizure. We’re afraid with his age, his heart won’t be able to handle the stress of the 4th of July. Nothing calms him, we keep him inside with loud music or the TV turned up loud, with him laying between us on the couch, talking to him, but he is terrified. Today we found Kalm & Gentle nutritional and herbal supplements which can be given for stressful situations with dogs. Has anyone ever tried them? Do they work and how long are they effective? It says on the bottle to give them to the dog 1/2 hour before a stressful situation occurs, but does not state how long they remain effective. I’ve checked their website, but that information is not listed. Please let me know if you’ve tried them and how they’ve worked. Or if you have any other suggestions to try during the fireworks season, we’d appreciate your help. Thanks!

Stitched Pigeon asked:
I have two great pyrenees (both are under 3 years old) and I want to start taking care of their bones and joints now in hopes of keeping them healthier longer. What are some good dietary supplements that I can get for them? I’ve looked in WalMart and the only thing I can find are pills where the dosage is something like 5 pills per day — ugh! I’m looking for something a little more economical and user-friendly.

srsly? asked: One my dogs sheds a lot. Her hair is coarse and thick. She’s a very mixed breed and also craves craves craves (Begs) food which makes me wonder if she’s deficient in something.
Both of my dogs eat iams w/o a schedule, that is to say, they eat from a constantly refilling source. ( I don’t know what that’s called).
The shedder will eat almost anything including fruits, vegetables, cardboard, and even dollar bills.
Her diet is 99.9% Iams which may or may not be providing what she needs.
If i could reduce the shedding somehow, that would be great.
She’s not shedding so much that she needs a vet..
She’s not ill. Just has a lot of surface area and a lot of hair.

Yesterday she gave birth and that’s how we found out she was low on calcium and I need help finding foods to help her build up calcium for her growing brood. Thank you.
